Doncaster Rovers 1-2 Leeds United - Carling Cup Second Round
Tuesday 23rd August 2011 - Keepmoat Stadium - Attendance: 8,505
After much, much begging by my cousin (third cousin, whatever!) James, I found myself bound to the Keepmoat Stadium for this Yorkshire derby in the Carling Cup.
Roughly between 4-5k made the short trip down from L***s to Doncaster. After a quick trip to McDonalds & a lovely walk through Doncaster to the middle of nowhere, in which a Tesco Depo & the Keepmoat Stadium is located.
After buying our tickets we made our way in & found our seats, there I was! A Bradford fan surrounded by thousands of L***s fans for the second time this season! (L***s v City was the other one!) After watching the teams warm up (Gradel has a shot on him doesn't he?!?) the teams made there way out for the game (In which time I was clapping the teams onto the field while trying not to drop a half eaten Burger & a bottle of Pepsi!)
The game began, whoever 90 seconds into the game a poor error from ex-City defender Andy O' Brien allowed James Hayter to give Doncaster the lead. However, I'm sure it was an O' Brien OG! Two facts came to my attention following the goal!
The first was L***s slow starts this season:
Southampton (A) Dean Hammond gave Southampton the lead in the 10th minute.
West Ham United (A) L***s were one nil down after a 6th minute volley from Carlton Cole.
Doncaster Rovers (A) James Hayter (AOB OG) gave Donny a 2nd minute lead.
The other stat which jumped out at me was L***s OG record this season:
Hull City (H) L***s won 4-1 despite a Tom Lees OG for Hull.
West Ham United (A) A last minute Adam Clayton goal saved L***s a point following a OG from Patrick Kisnorbo.
Doncaster Rovers (A) Andy O' Brien gives Donny an early lead with a OG.
However, the game continued & Doncaster dominated, & even had a fantastic chance to go 2 up, but he hit the crossbar in a moment to forget! A Tekaboo Son moment from Ramon Nunez on the half hour brought them level. It was a goal to savour, he got the ball following a pass from Llyod Sam & turned the centre back Tommy Spurr before sweetly curling the ball into the top left corner from 25 yards. That was it for the first half & half time came.
Half time began with another infamous Facebook rant from me! (I meant every bit of it!) I went to talk to some friends of mine in the food, bar & toilet area. To which I was talked to & accepted despite being a Bradford fan. And one defended me on my infamous FB rant! (Also thanks to Steve, Mark, Ben, James, Auntie Sarah, Tonie, Pete & Alex!) I returned to my seat for the second half.
Doncaster dominated the second half, with chances at a slim though, Max Gradel was brought on for L***s & A ironic applause went out to Andy O' Brien when he was replaced moments earlier. From then on, L***s dominated.
In the 82nd minute, L***s scored the winning goal in the same way they equalised. A flowing move was finished in tekaboo son style from the Honduran internation Nunez. He got the ball 25 yards out before this time curling it into the bottom corner to win the game & sent L***s into the third round of the Carling Cup.
On the way home, I managed to burn both my hands with hot chocolate! Never run across a bypass with a hot drink in hand is the morale & lesson of that story! Before boarding the train home, in which time we discussed the game & results from elsewhere, including DB's extra time collapse at Cardiff. A gave of Meow & Woof ended up with a angry Police officer giving some fans behind us a stern telling off, but there was trouble between Wakefield & L***s which resulted in the catering cart being cornored off. Following a quick change of trains in L***s our evening ended.
To finish off though here is the new segment to the blog, ten catergories chosen by Chapalar:
Was it worth the money? Good game to watch & the atmosphere was electric, yes it was worth the money.
Donny MOTM - Kyle Bennent, 99 times out of a 100, he'd of scored the 2-0 chance but was Donny's standout performer.
L***s MOTM - Ramon Nunez, along with Max Gradel played Donny of the park. His two tekaboo son goals, as well as doing his bit defensively won him the L***s & Overall MOTM.
Quote of the Match - The chant is you'll never beat Kisnorbo, West Ham did! He scored for them!
Goal of the Match - Ramon Nunez First Half equaliser.
Moment of the Match - Ramon Nunez's First Half equaliser.
Fan of the Match - Donny fan in a pink shirt who tried to pick a fight with 50-100 L***s fan on his own.
Chant of the Match - 'We're L***s United and we glow in the dark!'
FB Status of the Match - My Half Time rant just tips it... by a landslide!
Referee Watch - Mark Brown, had a quiet match & when he did have a decision made, got it spot on.
