Bradford City 1-2 AFC Wimbledon - Npower League Two
Saturday 24th September 2011 - The Coral Stadium - Attendance: 10,225 (515 Visitors)
Well, Well, Well... Embarrassing & garbage is a severe understatement for this game!
Upon arrival at VP, after the usual programme buy as well as going green over Aldershot's money spinning cup tie at home to Manchester United. We waited for the players to arrive. The players arrive doing there usual pictures, autographs ect. & Ben practically needing a new pair of boxers over Michael Bryan's other half! But, there's a talking point to come from the City front. Upon the news that they shall not be involved, Mark Stewart & Jack Compton stormed off very angry. Or as Stewart put it, "A bloody joke!" Didn't go down too well! And if looks could kill, Branston would of killed & Stewart & Compton's would have started a war!
Before this however, the AFC Wimbledon team coach arrived. After autographs & pictures, Wombles manager Terry Brown took time to chat to myself & Carribob, after announcing that I went to watch them in the Play Off Final & they're my second team, Terry said he'd try sort us out some tickets for when we head to Kingsmeadow in February! Legend! So, we headed in the ground & continued Womble chat with goalkeeper Seb Brown before heading to our seats & Lenny gave the Don's fans some well deserved applause as well.
So, the team's came out onto the VP surface & the game got under way. City oh so nearly took an early lead when Seb Brown headed a backpass into James Hanson to watch it anguishly hit the post & go wide, complaint that he didn't follow up. Hanson however was a man on a mission, he won header after header but couldn't make the chances count or find team mates. So back to the game.
After a couple of missed chances & some dodgy keeping, Bradford were awarded a penalty after Dons defender Callum McNaughton decided to re-arrange Jamie Devitt's face by giving him one hell of a wallop! (Probably did his dentist a favour & knocked the gnashers out!) Michael Flynn for the second home game in a row stepped up & smashed the Bantams into a well needed lead. However, it was the sign of a false dawn.
AFC Wimbledon came on the offence bar a Devitt shot well saved by Seb Brown & five minutes after going behind pulled level when Christian Jolley punished some poor marking by setting Jack Midson up for a tap in to bring the Dons level & send the travelling 515 supporters into raptures & pumped the noise level up to a whole other level. The Wombles continued this pressure in a scrappy end to the first half as half time came.
After a very quiet half time in which the shock of Plymouth winning was the only highlight the second half began. The second half began in the same fashion the first half ended, scrappy with the Dons on top. Rashid Yussuff continued to take apart the wing & came close to punishing the Bantams again. Hanson, replied for City forcing Brown into another fantastic save.
Kyel Reid showing his commitment to the cause by not showing up & Hanson knocking a poor lad or lass in Bantams Bar out with a wild shot didn't do much to cheer up the City faithful as we slipped into a deep depression. Christian Jolley then placed a wonderfully taken shot over Matt Duke into the top corner to give AFC Wimbledon a 2-1 lead & it also proved to be the winner. Question is, could of Duke done more?
AFC Wimbledon continued there control off the game & was helped by a shocker from our midfield, especially Reid on the left wing! No wonder Compton's face was worse than before up in the Co-operative Stand! The game than pantered out to full time with the only bright spark a Fagan shot just going over.
So, the players ratings: Bradford City & AFC Wimbledon! (I have some space to fill!)
BRADFORD CITY:
Matt Duke - 3 - Could of done more for the first goal, if he was more to the right he could of stood a chance with Jolley's goal (the second) but didn't stand a chance with that one! Looked generally poor & signing him & sending Jansson back is looking like a mistake from Parko!
Liam Moore - 4 - Did his job when needed but kept being turned & walked past far too often by Hatton & Yussuff!
Andrew Davies - 4 -Loves getting stuck in & doing a job but his marking & positioning let him down today.
Luke Oliver - 5 - Could of prevented the first goal with half a yard of pace more but did his job & looked fairly solid today.
Robbie Threlfall - 4 - Hoofball to Hanson does not work Scouse! How many times lad, you're a bright spark but hoofball lets you down.
Chris Mitchell - 4 - Has done absolute naff all since Barnet to be honest! Forgot he was there at times!
Michael Flynn - 5 - Scored the penalty to keep him at a 5 & not a 4 but look tired & his legs went after about 75-80 minutes.
Ritchie Jones - 5 - MOTM - Only bright spark in a very poor midfield today, did all the hard work & even though he wasn't mentioned was my Man of the Match this afternoon.
Kyel Reid - 3 - Oh My Word! Having a mare is an absolute understatement! Didn't look bothered & was poor in all aspects, no wonder Compton's face went from Thunder to Hurricane during second half!
Jamie Devitt - 5 - What position does the lad play? He just wanders but get's a job down & a bright spark in a poor team.
James Hanson - 5 - Bar his missed opportunities, he won everything in the air & supplied some good balls. His best game this season to date.
SUBS:
Craig Fagan - 5 - Some clever balls & a near beautiful goal did the job.
Ross Hannah - N/A - One touch of the ball & not enough time on the pitch makes him un-rateable this afternoon.
AFC Wimbledon:
Seb Brown - 5 - Fantastic saves by the lad throughout the game after a very shaky start to the afternoon.
Sam Hatton - 5 - Terrorised Moore & Mitchell along with Yussuff.
Jamie Stuart - 5 - Did his job when needed.

Gareth Gwillim - 4 - Quiet game, forgot he was there during the game.
Sammy Moore - 4 - Very quiet & was dominated easily put out the game by Ritchie Jones.
Lee Minshull - 5 - Was allowed to roam free & get balls in, but a good performance by the lad.
Luke Moore - 6 - Deserved applause from both sets of fans when he was subbed, put in one hell off a shift.
Rashid Yussuff - 5 - Caused Moore & Mitchell problems but his final ball was a letdown.
Christian Jolley - 6 - MOTM, was absolutely fantastic today! Played his part, gave our defence a headache & also a beautiful goal & an assist to boost him & his team's performance.
Jack Midson - 5 - Did his job up front & got himself a goal, good game by the lad.
SUBS:
Brendan Kiernan - N/A - Revert to Ross Hannah.
