Barnet 0-4 Bradford City - Npower League Two
Tuesday 28th February - Underhill Stadium - Attendance: 1507
So, Barnet away on a Tuesday night after such an awful shift put in at home to Hereford at the weekend... People must think we're mad!
Anyways, our day began on the Shippers fun size mini bus just after lunchtime & despite it being myself, Ellis & as some would say the old timers from the front of the coach it turned out to be quite a laugh!
For the first stretch of the journey myself & Ellis found ourselves having a nice conversation with a Halifax supporting ground hopper, turns out despite him being 63 & us being 18 we had quite a lot in common! We follow our teams but groundhop when we can't, we have a passion for the beautiful game & we both would give Imogen Thomas one for the lads! Haha!
Apart from that not much to report apart from a exchange of words over who is City's 'True' Main Rivals until the pub where after being ID'd & getting served on an away trip for the first time & a tasty Toby Carvery, myself & Ellis found ourselves in conversation with our new companion James & of course everyone's favourite coach driver Steve! We discussed the ins & outs from Days gone by to the expensive end of season coming up to next season & who's going up & going down from each division this season! Although, it was sad to hear that the Driver's son had been released by Torquay... All the best in your future footballing career!
So, after this we set off to Underhill for the final time! This is when the conversation turned fruity! First off all there was talk of our very own 'King' Kenny receiving some teabagging before we found out that there was those amongst us who's enjoyed some times with some rather shall we say tasteful Gentlemen! Our very own leader in Steve told us off the time he came across a beautiful barmaid with a nice backside & a cracking pair up front... But turned out to be a man in drag! As I said, Steve preferred the back of this particular individual! We then discovered that our new friend's friend had pulled a rather attractive lass in a 'Gay' Club before copping a feel, an experience I doubt he'll ever forget!
So upon arrival at Underhill with Tickets collected, Programmes bought & Ground entered, we met up with Ginge & the game got Under way!
City dominated the opening exchanges with Fagan & Smalley having good chances before a quarter of an hour into proceedings Craig Fagan was fouled by Barnet centre back Darren Dennehy & the referee awarded a penalty. Dennehy was met with instant dismissal to make a tough evening for the hosts even tougher before Craig Fagan stepped up confidently & fired the ball into the back of the net to break the deadlock & give the visitors the lead.
From then on City never looked back with the only downside seeing Michael Flynn leaving injured to be replaced by Will Atkinson but he then turned in his best shift since arriving on loan from PP's former club Hull City. Craig Fagan fired wide before a well built up play by Ritchie Jones & Kyel Reid saw the ball put into the box to be tapped home at full stretch by substitute Atkinson to double the Bantams advantage & continued the dominance shown by City. The half then faded out with Izale McLeod caught offside & Ricky Ravenhill booked for unsporting behaviour.
Not much to note from half time so to the Second Half.
The hosts made two early substitutes with the target for City fans abuse Jack Saville one of the two hauled off by the under pressure Lawrie Sanchez, then Barnet found themselves under enormous pressure with Will Atkinson, Craig Fagan & Marcel Seip putting young goalie Liam O' Brien under bombardment with shots before Ritchie Jones broke free passing the pull out wide to Kyel Reid who then cut inside taking on three or four defenders in the process before slotting home to put City into a 3-0 lead.
Kyel Reid & Craig Fagan continued to work Liam O' Brien before PP decided to rest them for Saturday first off hauling Fagan off for Nahki Wells & then Reid off for Lee Bullock. However between the substitutions, Barnet had there only real chance of the game when Izale McLeod shot straight at Jon McLaughlin in the City goal.
Following Reid being brought off, City hit on the attack again Rob Kozluk feeding the ball to Nahki Wells who cut inside before cheekily rounding the Barnet keeper to tap home into an open net to make it 4-0 & complete the rout!
The goal clearly had an effect on the Barnet team as following this, right back Michael Hector & star striker Izale McLeod began scrapping with each other requiring several of there team mates to defuse the situation with both players earning yellow cards for there antics. Mr East then brought the game to a close sending the 248 travelling City support home happy & with three vital points in the fight against relegation!
Not much to report on the way home with me being asleep for all but half an hour! But there was tyre fire just off the M1 causing a diversion for those travelling home to Bradford & our Halifax supporting friend & Steve (Golden Goal to me & you) putting the world to right!
CITY PLAYER RATINGS:
Jon McLaughlin - 6 - Nothing to do but is catching instead of punching which is an improvement!
Rob Kozluk - 7 - Had a solid game at right back & some of his cross field balls to Reid deserved to be looked at in awe!
Luke Oliver - 7 - Kept Izale McLeod quiet from start to finish!
Andrew Davies - 7 - Another solid display from the Stoke man!
Marcel Seip - 7 - Managed to go a game without hoofing the ball into the stands! Also kept that little sod Deering quiet on the right wing!
Michael Flynn - 5 - Looked good in the 25 minutes he was on before going off injured or ill?!
Ritchie Jones - 8 - Very impressive game! Covered every blade & controlled the midfield, well played Lad!
Ricky Ravenhill - 7 - Helped came down possible situations what could lead Barnet to having an attack.
Kyel Reid - 9 - MOTM - Absolute blinder! Barnet couldn't control him & he was playing a brand of 'Sexy' Football not sign very often at this level! Tore the midfield & defence apart & Got a goal to boot! Shame he had to go off injured!
Deane Smalley - 7 - Best he's played since joining on loan, looked dangerous but can get greedy!
Craig Fagan - 9 - Why are we playing this man on the wing when he plays like that up front! Like Reid tore Barnet apart & got a goal before being subbed off!
SUBS:
Will Atkinson - 7 - Came on for Flynn & looked formidable in the middle of the park! Getting a goal to go with the performance as well!
Nahki Wells - 7 - Ran rings round a tired Barnet defence before cheekily rounding the keeper to complete the rout!
Lee Bullock - 5 - Only had 5 minutes but looked very good!
And of course, Chapman's XI:
Was it worth the money? To see one of City's best performances of the season whilst ending my 10 month, 23 day wait to see us win away in the League? Well & truly!
City MOTM - Kyel Reid - Absolute blinder! Barnet couldn't control him & he was playing a brand of 'Sexy' Football not sign very often at this level! Tore the midfield & defence apart & Got a goal to boot! Shame he had to go off injured!
Barnet MOTM - Sam Deering - The non stop running midfielder was the only player for the hosts who you could honestly even remember doing anything during the match, well if you're talking about football & not fighting that is!
Quote of the Match - Steve: "I much preferred him or her from the back, that's all I saw to be honest," Me: "Bet you did!" - Me making light of Steve's encounter with a chick with a dick!
Fan of the Match - The two Brighton based Bantams who spent majority of the game giving abuse to the poor Barnet left back Jack Saville!
Chant of the Match - "You're getting F*cked by the Council! F*cked by the Council!" - City fans cruel way to mock the Barnet v Council battle over Underhill which is soon to be a Tesco!
FB Status of the Match - You know it's bad when your team start kicking seven shades out of each other, eh Barnet? - I decide to shed some light on the Hector v McLeod battle on the pitch following City's 4th & final goal!
Tweet of the Match - @tannerman774 Stand up & wave & we'll wave back from Chapalar, Ellis, Ginge & Friend at the back of away terrace! Cheers :') - I decide to try get a wave from our very own Derm Tanner!
Referee Watch - Roger East - Looked shaky at first but came good at the end & refereed the game very well in my opinion!
FATWATCH - Sadly there is none unless Ginge is willing to step up to the plate!
